‘Compensate those who lost lives, eyesight’

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party (JKDLP) Chairman, Hashim Qureshi Friday expressed grief and pain on the killing and wounding of innocent people, particularly the youth of Kashmir, in ongoing unrest in the State.In a statement issued to KNS, he expressed his deep regret on security forces using pellet guns to disperse the mobs due to which they lost their eyesight and other eye ailments.He asked whether it is a punishment to Kashmiris to blind them because Mahatma Gandhi, had seen a ray of light in Kashmir at a time when entire India was dragged to the violence and destruction of life.Qureshi expressed surprised whether the vast Indian security establishment had no means other than firing straight at the mobs to disperse them? “Under recognized norms the security forces, whenever permitted to fire, have to shoot at legs only but in the case of present and past experience, security forces have been throwing these norms to wind and firing straight above the legs which means instant fatality. This has always been happening whenever there are demonstrations in Kashmir,” he said.

JKDLP Chairman demanded immediate ban on use of pellet guns, all pellet victims be provided with best treatment so that they recover their eyesight, Pellet gun victims be given financial compensation to the tune of five lakh rupees per head.“AFSPA should be immediately withdrawn because security forces are using it for extra-judicial killing and they are not accountable, PSA should be abolished immediately, All detained persons should be immediately set free notwithstanding whatever allegations are brought against them, People who died owing to the excesses of security forces should be compensated to the tune of 20 lakh rupees per case, Losses of property, houses, vehicles, and shops etc, suffered at the hands of security forces should be adequately compensated,” he demanded.

Recurring disturbances in Kashmir stem from Kashmir being a dispute among three parties. “The best way of not allowing disturbances to happen so often is to resolve Kashmir dispute. That can be achieved by initiating bilateral as well as trilateral talks among the stakeholders namely the people of Kashmir, India and Pakistan. This is the problem of self-determination of Kashmir’s. Kashmir has to be united and all stakeholders must be party to its final resolution,” he said. (KNS)
