Govt convenes all parties meeting on ongoing unrest

Present situation is a political unrest that needs political resolution'

As the government Thursday convened all parties meeting in view of the ongoing unrest, leaders of the opposition political parties said that the present situation is a “political unrest” which needs “political resolution”. JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that the calling the meeting was essential for helping the government to restore normalcy in the state.“But the meeting is a short term measure to restore peace in the ongoing unrest. But ultimately, local leadership from all shades has to sit for evolving a long lasting political solution to the issue,” Mir told reporters during the meeting.The meeting was held at SKICC here in which most of the political leaders of smaller parties participated.However, major opposition party, National Conference did not attend the meeting, calling that the meeting was “too little too late”.As per KNS correspondent, Mir said that a special Assembly session should be convened to discuss present unrest and evolve a consensus about resolving the present political crisis.“We won’t seek resignation of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. That will be our shortsightedness,” he said.

“Mehbooba Mufti as opposition leader was more active and different. But as chief minister she is entirely different and more invisible. Why is she invisible, we are surprised.”On government ordering reopening of schools in four districts, Mir said that government is making its efforts but is not realising the reality on the ground.

CPI (M) state secretary and legislator from Kulgam, M Y Tarigami said that the present situation is not a law and order problem as the government is trying to make us believe.“It is a political unrest and needs a political resolution. We should not to see it as an isolated incident and ignore it,” Tarigami told reporters during the meeting.

“Government of India must realise the nature of the unrest. Prime Minister of India must speak in the parliament on the present unrest and send a message to the people of the Kashmir that government of India is feeling the pain of the people here.”“My appeal to GoI is to treat people of Kashmir as human beings, and don’t find excuses by blaming this country or that group for the present unrest here. Don’t terrorise the people of the Kashmir,” he said.

He warned that “big trouble” will be ahead if the old methods and stories are repeated.However, no representative or minister spoke to the media about the meeting. Even opposition leaders were tightlipped about the consensus that was evolved in the meeting to resolve the present unrest. Some of the oppsotion leaders in the meeting have suggested to the government to take National Conference onboard to help restore peace in the Valley.Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too evaded media and when she was asked by reporters to brief them about the meeting, she said that one of her cabinet ministers will read a resolution to the media. But no minister read any resolution or spoke to the media.“Department of Information will release a briefing about the meeting to the media,” one of the ministers said. (KNS)
