Kandi Canal Project Relating To Two Districts To Be Completed By July 31- Sharanjit Singh Dhillon

Better Irrigation Services To Be Provided To 218 Villages Of SBS Nagar And Hoshiarpur

Mr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon Irrigation Minister Punjab has directed the officers of the department to accomplish the Kandi Canal Project Stage 2 related to the Nawan Shahr and Hoshiarpur districts by July 31 so that 218 villages of these districts get better irrigation services.Presiding over a high level meeting of the officers to take stock of the ongoing works of the Kandi Canal Project Stage 2, the Minister said that the Stage 1 of the Kandi Canal Project started through RD 60 KM (Hoshiarpur) till RD 130 KM (Balachaur) for the discharge of 258 cusic of water. He said that the total length of the canal is 70 Kms in which underground pipes were being laid in about 15 Km long stretch. He said that 23326 hectare of land in as many as 218 villages would be given better irrigation facilities with the completion of this project worth Rs. 540.24 crore.Adding further, the Minister said that out of the total 70 Kms long canal, 56 Kms was being constructed with the help of brick lining while the rest of about 14 Kms with the underground pipes. 

Under this scheme there were total 5 lift schemes and 6 flow rivulets with the total length of 151 Kms whereas the total length of the drains is about 1200 Kms. He also said that 28 direct outlets and 168 with concrete structures are also being constructed, out of these 20 direct outlets and 165 concrete structures have already been constructed.The Minister further said that the construction work of the main canal is almost complete and it would be operational by July 31, 2016. He said that 70% of the work has been completed and the remaining work would be completed after the ongoing monsoons. Mr. Dhillon also said that this canal would provide irrigation facilities to the 40,000 acres of land. He said that during the previous Rabi season 5000 hectares of area was provided better irrigation facilities.Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Chief Engineer Mr. S. K. Kapoor, OSD Mr. Sehajpreet Singh Mangat and the concerned officers of the Project.
