Dy CM seeks people’s cooperation in maintaining peace, harmony

Convenes joint meeting of civil society representatives, religious leaders, administration

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh today sought the cooperation of civil society and religious leaders in maintaining peace and harmony in the state.Chairing a joint meeting of prominent citizens, representatives of various traders, social and religious organizations and Government functionaries, the Dy CM sought their cooperation maintaining peace and tranquility and facilitating effective implementation of the government’s developmental initiatives. He said peace and harmony are imperative for meeting the aspirations of the people adding the civil society has indispensable role in achieving this goal.He said the government is taking various measures to restore peace in Kashmir valley. He said there was a need to isolate the trouble-mongers so that the common people are assuaged of hardships.“Only a handful of people are involved in fomenting trouble and there is a need to isolate and expose them,” he said and sought the cooperation of civil society in checking rumor mongering.   

Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Priya Sethi, MLA West Sat Sharma, MLA East Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, IGP Jammu Danish Rana, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range, Ashkoor Wani, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh, Director Tourism Jammu Sushma Chouhan, senior functionaries of various departments were also present in the meeting.The Dy CM said the government is making every effort to provide uninterrupted supplies to Kashmir valley and other far flung areas.Dispelling the apprehensions of transporters and business organizations, Dy CM said the government would provide all possible security and protection to the goods and supplies carriers as is being provided to Shri Amarnath Yatris.      

Dr Nirmal Singh appealed the general public to assist local administration in maintaining peace and normalcy in their respective areas.He urged the people to maintain Jammu’s age old tradition of unity, brotherhood and amity and do not pay heed to the rumor mongers.He said all resources are being utilized to make the Shri Amarnathji Yatra peaceful.The participants also put forth their suggestions and assured to extend full cooperation to the administration and police in maintaining peace in the state. They also suggested involvement of the civil society of Kashmir to help in restoring peace there.The participants suggested for constitution of committee comprising representatives from all religions who would assist the administration during religious processions and functions.Dr Singh said the people have reposed trust and hope in the coalition   Government and no stone would be left unturned to promote a conducive peaceful environment in the state.Among others present in the meeting were President Jammu Bar Association, President Jammu Hotel and Lodges Association, Chairman Traders Association, representatives of various religious organizations and members of civil society.
