Govt failed to control situation in Kashmir: Hakim Muhammad Yasin

‘Cosmetic exercises won’t yield any results’

Stating that government had completely failed to control the situation in Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin today said cosmetic steps taken by successive state and centre governments to bring peace in the state have yielded no results as those were always half hearted attempts.In a statement to press Hakim Yasin said, “The situation is turning from b to worse. There is acute shortage of essential commodities especially medicines in the Valley. It is duty of the government to bring the people out of the mess. However, so far the government has failed in its duty as its appeal to contain protests has yielded no results.”The PDF chief said unless the root cause of the problem, which is Kashmir issue, the situation won’t improve. “Apparently the situation may improve for some time with cosmetic measures but in the long run, unless Kashmir problem isn’t addressed according to the aspirations of its people, the present situation will re-occur again and again,” he warned.The MLA Khansahib said that every time there is a problem in Kashmir, Center appoints some committee to look into the grievances of the people. 

“However, be it the report of interlocutors appointed after 2010 unrest, or working groups report, the Center never takes anything to its logical conclusion which is unfortunate. The cosmetic exercises won’t yield any results,” he said. Asking PDP led state government to immediately initiate a dialogue with separatists, the PDF chief said, “It was PDP who used to say ‘baat banege boli se na ke goli se’. There is a strong government in the Center of which PDP is a partner. When in opposition PDP leadership used to say Kashmir is a core issue and needs to be addressed according to the aspirations of Kashmiris.”“Now is the time for PDP to address the core issue of Kashmir which can decrease the violence. If it (Kashmir) isn’t solved the uncertainty will increase and so will violence and killings. People are feeling insecure due to unnecessary killings and it is the duty of the government to instil confidence among the people,” he said.He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of people who died in last two days and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
