Health Mela on WPS, IDC commences

A fortnight health mela on World Population Stabilization and Intensified Diarrhoea Control (WPS & IDC), organized by District Health Society Udhampur to commemorate World population Day, commenced here today at District Hospital Udhampur.Members Legislative Assembly, Pawan Kumar Gupta and Dina Nath Bhagat jointly inaugurated the mela.While speaking on the occasion Pawan said that such programmes are organized in order to raise awareness on global population issues. He said that population explosion leads to continuous depletion of natural resources which can only be stabilized by spreading awareness regarding family planning among the general public particularly in rural areas. He also stressed on the need of creating awareness regarding the preventive health care education in the society.

Dina Nath Bhagat, while addressing the gathering, said that increase in population creates hurdles in progress and development of the country. He called upon the ASHA workers to educate and motivate not only the women folk but also the men and make them aware about their role in controlling the increasing population of the country. He appreciated the efforts of health department in organizing such programmes for welfare of the society.Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chander Parkash, highlighted the aims and objectives of the mela. He said that motivational and awareness programmes are being held at tehsil and block level to encourage the general public adopt family planning.Joint Director Planning,  Rakesh Jamwal, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chander Parkash, Chief Education Officer, Bishan Singh, Deputy CMO, Dr. Santosh Sharma, District Panchayat Officer, Sandeep, Medical Superintendent DH , Dr. Narinder Singh, District Health Officer, District Immunization Officer,  Multi Health Workers and ASHAs were present on the occasion.
