Rajbagh police arrests accused woman’s attacker within 12 hours

Within 12 hours, police in Rajbagh has arrested the man who had attacked the wife of a retired forest conservator, relieving locals of the fear which the act had created.Station House Officer, Rajbagh, Kuldeep Koul told KNS that the accused, Naveed Alam son of Abdul Rehman Mir of Ludna, Doda, has been arrested within 12 hours after the incident.Koul said that Alam had entered into the house of the couple at Rajbagh for robbery, and when the wife of ex-forest official, Abdul Hameed Khan got alerted he tried to attack her.“Alam and his wife were living in the quarter just adjacent to the house of the couple. His wife was domestic helper of the couple, while Alam was a labourer,” Koul told KNS.“We arrested Alam around Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal while launching swift hunt for him,” the police officer said. “FIR no. 43 under section 458 against the accused.”

On Monday night at 11.30, Alam, wearing mask, had clandestinely entered into the Khan’s house though a window for robbery. He had switched off the power supply of the house.But when Khan’s wife switched on the light, the accused tried to attack her. She raised alarm and the man fled.The police officer said that before this incident, the accused had withdrawn money from their bank account by ATM.“We investigated the CCTV footage of the ATM and then asked the couple to identify the person, which they identified as Naveed Alam. We suspected him and started hunt for him and nabbed him around Jawahar Tunne,” he said. “After during questioning he confessed having attacked the woman.” (KNS)
