Amarnath Yatra begins today, Rajnath Singh visits cave, Hazratbal shrine

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday flew to the Amarnath Cave to participated special puja and later he paid obeisance at the Hazratbal Shrine here.Accompanied JK Governor N.N. Vohra, Singh flew in a helicopter to the cave in Pahalgam."Feeling extremely blessed after visiting the Holy Cave at Amarnathji this morning (Saturday). Jai Baba Bholenath!," Rajnath Singh tweeted after visiting the shrine. Later, the home minister paid obeisance at the Hazratbal Shrine. 

Director General of Police K. Rajendra Kumar accompanied Rajnath Singh during his visit to the Hazratbal Shrine. eanwhile, over 9,000 pilgrims set off from base camps in Ganderbal and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir to begin this year's Amarnath Yatra. "Out of 7500 pilgrims gathered at the Baltal base camp (Ganderbal), 4000 had crossed the Dumail gate to start the 14-kilometre long trek to the Cave Shrine early today. The home minister will wind up his two-day visit today. Singh attended a high-level meeting on Fridaywith Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, top civil, police and Army officers to take stock of the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
