The Executive Members of JK Press Association (JKPA) held an emergency meeting today and expressed grave anguish over the apathetic and indifferent attitude of the State Government, particularly the Information Department towards the proprietors of newspapers in the State of J&K.A delegation of the JKPA had earlier met the Chief Secretary in November last year and presented and discussed a Memorandum of demands and later met the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, on 5th June, 2016 and presented a detailed Memorandum of genuine demands but with no positive result so far. The payments pertaining to advertisements are pending for the last ten months, which has brought the Owners of the newspapers face to face with extreme financial crisis. Not content with the Non-release of payments even on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Information Department has also reduced the quantum of advertisements to the newspapers drastically low which smacks of biased, partial and unsympathetic attitude of the officials of the said department towards the newspaper industry which provides employment to thousands of persons in J&K.
