Steps underway for better management of Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary: Chaudhary Lal Singh

Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology  Choudhary Lal Singh today while replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Ramesh Arora informed the House that the Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary was notified by the J&K Government (Forest Department) vide SRO-136 of 1990 dated 10-04-1990 and is being managed under the provisions of J&K Wildlife Protection Act, 1978 as well as directions issued from time to time by the Supreme Court of India for better management of National parks and Sanctuaries.Various activities including removal of weeds, habitat improvement, maintenance of fair weather roads, entry barriers etc. have been permitted by the Supreme Court, Minister informed. Lal Singh further said that the Wazir point is part of Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary and no deforestation is being done. He said only removal of lantana and other weed, climbers are being carried out by the field staff in order to improve the habitat as per the approved programme. This will be followed by plantation in the coming monsoon to improve the habitat and the Department through its field staff is keeping strict vigil to avert any un-lawful activity inside the sanctuary, he added.
