Hundreds of contractual teachers working in different government colleges across Kashmir Monday staged protest demonstration, demanding reconsideration of policy governing their services.Protestors assembled at press enclave here and raised pro-justice slogans to press for their demand.“The teachers working as contractual are still paid pea nuts as remuneration as compared to the permanent college teachers despite possessing degrees doctorate degrees, fellowships, having qualified required eligibility tests and “delivering same levels of services in the class rooms,” they said.“The engagement of contractual teacher’s policy came into existence in 1997. Our services to the higher education have been neglected and career prospects damaged by higher authorities in the government,” they added.

The accused government of lip service and doing nothing against the assurances issued to them from time to time.“The government has kept the college contractual teachers out of the purview of J&K Services (Special Provisions) Act 2010 which provides the regularization of services of ad hoc, contractual employees after completion of seven years of service in government,” they said. They said that authorities have admitted and accepted their demand as “genuine” but nothing was done for the regularization of their services. They threatened to go on indefinite strike in case authorities fail to take necessary initiatives to reconsider existing policy which govern their services.
