Thrashing of student: DSEK dissolves school management body

Days after principal of a Higher Secondary schools in uptown area of Hyderpora here ruthlessly thrashed a class 8 student, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) dissolved entire school management body of the school on Friday."A complaint of physical assault on a girl student in M.F Hr. Sec. School Hyderpora was received by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir... acting swift on the complaint. A team of the officers comprising Joint Director (EE), DEPO Srinagar and OSD (IMW) was deputed to the school for enquiry into the incident," said a DSEK statement issued to GNS.Whereas, the report submitted by the Enquiry Committee reveals that a girl student has been ruthlessly beaten by the Principal of the said School on mere slip of tongue, it said. "The charges against the Principal have been established by the classmates of the said girl student."... During enquiry the Principal of the said school also confessed beating the student for none of her fault... such unwarranted act on the part of Principal of the said school by beating of a girl student mercilessly which has lead to injuries on her body is intolerable and unacceptable in a civilized society," the DSEK said.Pertinently, Supreme Court of India has imposed complete ban on corporal punishment in schools, so that children should be allowed to acquire education in an atmosphere free from fear of punishment, physical or otherwise.

The Directorate has also issued circular instructions from time to time to ensure that students are not given corporal, punishment as it bears undesired ramifications.The DSEK said this incident has caused huge resentment in general public and as custodian of the school children, Education Department can't let it go unpunished."In view of-the above facts, the Managing Body of the institution is dissolved with immediate effect and the Chief Education Officer, Srinagar is directed to administer the school till new managing body is framed. Besides, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar is directed to shift the 8th class students of the said school to the Model High School Hyderpora," the DSEK added. (GNS)
