Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Ms Asiea Naqash today informed the House that Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was launched in the country including Jammu and Kashmir in October 2014 with the objective of achieving cleanliness by 2019.Replying to a question by Mr Sat Paul Sharma, the Minister said that under SBM 94091 household toilets would be constructed in urban areas of the state. She said in this regard the Department concerned has received 68,964 applications from households out of which 39,987 applications were verified and 28,870 applications of the household were approved for construction of household toilets. She said so far the construction work on 3273 such toilets are apace while as the work on 20 toilets were completed.

The Minister further informed that 2078 community/public toilets would be constructed in urban areas under SBM, against which the construction work of 31 such complexes have been completed and work on 11 community toilets are apace. She said the land for construction of more community toilet complexes has also been identified.The Minister said that for successful implementation of SBM in the State the Government has taken a number of initiatives. She said that an extensive programme has been initiated to maintain hygiene in the areas and also ensure further sustainability of the cleanliness.

The Minister said that Rs 25.30 crore were earmarked for implementation of various components of SBM in Urban areas during current financial year.

Giving details about the cleanliness of slums in General Bus Stand, Jammu, Sabzi Mandi Gole Gujral, Krishna Nagar and Christian Colony etc, the Minister said that the sanitation is being provided to the slums falling under the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Committee.Mr Rajesh Gupta, Mr Mubarak Gul, Syed Altaf Bukhari raised supplementaries to the main question and urged for taking appropriate steps for ensuring proper cleanliness in twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar, besides calling for time bound completion of different civic projects and de-silting of nallas in Jammu Municipal area.
