In a Kashmir Village, US based IMRC organizes Grand Iftaar

US based Indian Muslim Relief & Charities on Sunday, June 19 organised a grand Iftaar cum dinner at Zalpora village in Sumbal Sonawari area of Kashmir under its “Village Iftaar Program” for more than 1200 persons including women and children.Most of the people who were served with Iftaar were majorly labourers, needy  and daily wagers. In Kashmiri tradition, a gathering of four people eat together in one big plate called "trami", sitting on the ground over a dining spread (dastarkhan). Same tradition was followed and 300 ‘tramis’ were arranged for serving the meals for this grand Iftaar.“These Iftaars are organized with an aim of increasing brotherhood in the community. It was a huge gathering, where 1200 persons broke their fast together and prayed for the donors. It was like a festival for them and they appreciated IMRC for organizing such an event in a village,” said IMRC Srinagar volunteer, Syed Tabassum Geelani.

One more grand village Iftaar for 1300 persons is scheduled for Sunday, June 26 at Hasanpora, Tawela Village of Bijbehara.Earlier this month also, IMRC provided 700 families in six districts viz. Srinagar, Baramullah, Bandipora, Budgam, Pulwama, Anantnag of Kashmir division with  ration for whole month of Ramadan.These programmes are funded by US based IMRC to feed and help the poor who can't afford their daily meals. IMRC’s programme extends beyond providing cooked meals and grains during Ramadan. It also provides the opportunity for children and adults to have a pair of new Eid clothes, which will also be implemented in Kashmir later this month. Indian Muslim Relief & Charities ( IMRC ) is a US based non-profit organization which began in 1981 and helps run several programmes throughout the country in partnership with over 100 organizations. Besides running schools and colleges they have been at the forefront of providing immediate relief to affected victims of 2015 Nepal Earthquake, 2014 Kashmir Floods, 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, 2012 Assam riots, and other natural/man-made calamities.
