The central government would take all possible steps to increase production and productivity of agriculture in northeastern region, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh said here on Sunday."The central government would undertake all possible steps to increase production and productivity of agriculture in hilly northeastern region," he said after laying the foundation stone of proposed Horticulture College at Thenzawl on the outskirts of the Mizoram capital.He said that the northeastern region comprising eight states have huge potentiality to boost agriculture, horticulture and other crops as its climate and soil are favourable.Singh also met Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and discussed prospects and planning of agricultural development in Mizoram and other northeastern states, farmers welfare and technology inputs to agriculture and allied sectors.An official release said that the Union Agriculture Minister apprised the Chief Minister that a Vocational Training Institute and a Multi-Technology Testing Centre would be established in Mizoram in collaboration with his ministry within three months.
