Photojournalist of local English daily alleges highhandedness by police

SP refutes, says family attack police party, filed case against them

A Photojournalist of a local English daily Sunday alleged that police personnel who are deputed in Humhama police station went “berserk” on last evening.Farooq Ahmad Shah, a photojournalist, working with local English daily, Rising Kashmir told KNS that he was sitting with his family in garden during which some police personnel entered into his house. “The police personnel started abusing me without any reason. I showed my media card to them but instead of leaving my house the officer accompanying with the police party thrashed me ruthlessly,” Shah said.He said that his family came out to rescue me but the police personnel’s behaviour was deplorable as “without caring about my 17 year old son and my old aged father and mother, they fired tear smoke shells in our house thereby resulted in the illness to my 6 months old kid.

”Shah appeals Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Javaid Mujataba Gilani to look into the matter and take actions against the police personnel’s involved in such kind of happenings.Meanwhile federation of Urdu working journalists condemned this incident and termed it attack on fourth pillar of democracy .they demanded probe and strict action against the cops who attacked the journalist.Superintendent of Police (SP) Budgam, Fayaz Ahmad while refuting the allegation told KNS that a police party was searching stone pelters who entered his house but the family members attacked police party who were on duty.“We have registered a case against the family in this regard,” he said.
