The Punjab Government would soon institute a prestigious award dedicated to the founder of Namdhari Sect Satguru Ram Singh ji during his ongoing yearlong bi-centennial birth celebrations from February 12, 2016.A decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a meeting of the state level committee to review the arrangements for yearlong bi-centennial birth celebrations of Satguru Ram Singh ji here at Chief Minister's Residence, this morning. Badal also disclosed that a high powered delegation of SAD-BJP MPs from Punjab would soon call on the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to impress upon him for the ongoing bi-centennial birth celebrations of Satguru Ram Singh ji at the national level in recognition to his enormous contribution in the National Freedom struggle. It may be recalled that few MPs had already flagged up this issue with Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh, who gave a very positive response in this regard.

The Chief Minister also told in the meeting that he would soon take up the matter with GoI for issuing a commemorate coin of Rs. 200 and Rs. 10 denomination besides releasing a commemorative postage stamp on this historic occasion.To perpetuate the philosophy and works of Satguru Ram Singh amongst our younger future generations, the Chief Minister asked the Education department to hold a series of seminars and declamation contests at the district level to ensure the participation of students from schools and colleges of the state. He also directed Vice Chancellors of Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to also organize seminars and symposiums on the ideology of Baba Ram Singh ji through inviting eminent scholars and academicians. The Chief Minister also asked the VC Punjabi University Patiala to get a book published on the Kuka Movement which would be edited by Dr. Nazar Singh. He desired that this book must be completed well within time line so as to ensure its release on the valedictory function to be held on February 12, 2017. Likewise, the Chief Minister also asked the Information & Public Relations Department to bring special issue of its departmental magazines 'Vikas Jagrati' in Punjabi and Hindi besides 'Punjab Advance' in English on the legacy of Baba Ram Singh ji. 

Responding to their demand on the issue of making a film on Satguru Ram Singh ji and kuka movement, the Chief Minister informed in the meeting that the state government was in the process of constructing a world class Jang-e-Azadi memorial at Katarpur at a cost of Rs.200 crore to showcase the enormous contribution of Punjabis in the national freedom struggle. This memorial would depict all the freedom movements including the kuka and the exemplary valour displayed by its martyrs in one-and-a-half-hour documentary film being produced by the Ace Film director Shyam Benegal.Acceding to another request, the Chief Minister also assured that Baba Ram Singh's house at his birthplace in village Rayian of Ludhiana district, would be spruced up and beautified properly besides ensuring all round development of the village.Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included; Cabinet Ministers Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal and Mr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Member Parliament Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu, Secretary Finance Mr. Jaspal Singh, Secretary Information & Public Relations Mr. Rahul Tiwari, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Gagandeep Singh Brar, Director Information & Public Relations Mrs. Senu Duggal besides Vice Chairman Kuka Shaheed Yadgari Trust Baba Surinder Singh Namdhari, Members Gursev Singh and Swarn Singh Virk.
