Daily wages / casual workers to get paid holiday on the day of poll

The Election Commission of India has ordered that the daily wage/casual workers would also be entitled for a holiday and wages on poll day as provided in section 135-B of the representation of the people act 1951.  In a communiqué sent to all the heads of various departments, pisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Sub pisional Magistrates and Chairman/Managing Directors of all the Corporations/ Boards, the Punjab Government clarified that as per the directions of ECI all establishment and shops should be closed on the day of poll in the State. It is further clarified that in case a person was ordinary resident of the constituency and registered as an Elector and serving/employed in an industrial undertaking or an establishment located outside the constituency having general/bye election would also be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday extended under the section 135 B (1) of RP Act, 1951.
