Oakridge International School organized a seminar on adolescence for the students. While welcoming the keynote speaker Dr Ritambhra Bhalla, Senior Consultant, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Fortis Hospital, Principal Ramanjit Ghuman discussed the woes of Adolescence.According to her adolescence is a transitional stage of physical and psychological development. Teenagers have many doubts and conflicts in regard to the several changes they go through during these growing years of their lives

.Inhibitions and a fear of being ridiculed inhibit these youngsters from sharing their feelings with their parents, teachers or even friends.To help the students to combat such fears Dr Bhalla began by assuring the students that the changes occurring in them are a normal process. It is not surprising that, with the speed of these changes, some adolescents become very concerned about their appearances. They may feel worried, especially if these changes happen earlier or later than their peers. It is important to remember that there is often a great variation in the ages at which these changes happen for different people and adolescents need to be reassured about this. She later, discussed about physical, physiological, mental and emotional changes during adolescence. She threw light on nutritional needs during adolescence and the causes of pubertal changes. She also discussed about HIV also at the time.According to her adolescence is a positive stage of life, full of possibilities and potential as adolescents are the most productive members of the society, due to their immense capacities. They must channelize their energies for constructive purposes and refrain from indulging in antisocial activities. At the end Dr Bhalla invited questions from the youngsters so that she could clear their doubts and gain a better understanding of what they were undergoing. A separate session was arranged for the girls at the moment with Dr. Bhalla to clarify their curiosities.
