Sham Lal Chowdhery takes stock of dredging work in Jehlum

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Sham Lal Choudhary today visited Panzinara Tengpora area of Ganderbal to take stock of the dredging work being carried out in Jehlum there. The dredging is used to excavate sand and muck from the river.The Minister was informed that dredger machine works against the flow of water and bring out 12,000 cu meters water per hour with 80 to 90 per cent sand and muck from the river.  It was informed that Three dredgers machines have been engaged for the work, adding that two more dredgers would also be engaged for speedy and timely completion of dredging from Jehlum.  There are two decks have been established of over 40 thousand carrying capacity.Later, the Minister visited Sharifabad and inspected proposed site for construction of bridge, and other work being carried out for widening of Doodhganga Channel. The Minister was briefed about the comprehensive site plan of SFC from Padshahi Bagh to Wullar lake including Doodh Ganga Diversion channel.  He was informed that the work on the 399 crore project including construction of bridge, widening of flood channel and strengthening of embankment has been allotted and would be started soon.Interacting with the locals, the Minister said with the dredging,  the capacity of the river will increase   which would go a long way in tackling floods in future.  He said that the banks of the rivers would also be widened and strengthened with the use of dredging material which would reduce the threat of floods. Responding to the demands of locals, the Minister asked the concerned for formulating DPRs for installation of dewatering station in area.  He said that  a khuls would also be constructed  from Takanwari to Tengpora if the  locals provide land.
