Reiterating that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was a moral and physical coward, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today questioned his (Mr Badal’s) silence over the attack on Lt Gen Kuldeep Singh Brar in London on Sunday night. In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder remarked, “Badal’s silence is just not criminal, it is seditious and betrays his moral and physical cowardice”. He observed, it was shocking that the Chief Minister had preferred to keep quiet on such a critical issue that is directly related to Punjab. Asking the Chief Minister to clarify his stand on the attack on Gen Brar, the PCC President remarked, “Badal’s silence simply amounts to approving the attack”. He said, on such issues Badal cannot stick to his characteristic fence sitting positions. “You are either with the terrorists who attacked Gen Brar or against them”, he told Mr Badal, remarking, “with your silence you have clearly conveyed that you are with the terrorists who attacked Gen Brar”. Reacting to the statement issued through a junior functionary of the Akali Dal referring to his stand on Operation Bluestar in 1984, Capt Amarinder asked Mr Badal, “how long are you going to hide behind the moral and physical cowardice…Chief Ministers are supposed to lead and not hide behind their junior officials”. Maintaining that his stand on the Operation Bluestar was too well known to everyone and more so the Badal and other Akalis, the former Chief Minister said, he did not need a certificate from anybody to prove his credentials, much less Mr Badal, who has a habit and history of betrayals with everyone, be it the panth or his colleagues and friends. “You need to have moral courage to call spade a spade and that is what I did in 1984 and that is what I am doing now”, he told Mr Badal while challenging him to show similar courage and clarify his stand on the attack on General Brar. Capt Amarinder said, when the history of Operation Bluestar will be written, Mr Badal will be squarely held responsible for it as it was his perpetuated indecisiveness, cowardice and pusillanimous character that brought the situation to such an extreme that pushed Punjab into dark era of chaos, anarchy and terror. “And unfortunately Mr Badal does not seem to have learnt any lessons even now and he continues to perpetuate that character which is dangerous for Punjab”, he remarked.
