Minister of State for PHE and Irrigation & Flood Control, Power Development, Industries & Commerce and Hajj & Auqaf, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi informed the house that devastating floods of 2014 caused heavy damages by way of breaches, sloughing of the embankment of river Jhelum and also changed the course of Nallahs towards the habitations and orchards flowing through Pulwama district, which included Rambiara Nallah, Romshi and Laar canal by way of erosion of banks and damages to existing flood protection works.Replying to a question by Muhammad Khalil Bandh, the Minister said that immediately, after assessing the damages, the vulnerable spots were restored, both temporarily and permanently by way of earth filing, construction of Crate protection Bunds etc.The Minister said that 140 damaged spots of Jhelum at Kawani to Kadlabal Pampore on the left embankment and from Mirzapora to Sempora on right embankment have been restored at an estimated cost of Rs 7.28 crore under SDRF.
The Minister further said that under permanent restoration 62 spots have been restored from Kawani to Kadlibal and from Mirzapora to Sempora on right and left embankments of Jhelum at a cost of Rs 5.28 crore. He said that 32 spots from village Sangarvani to Kakapora on Rumreshi Nallah have been restored at an estimated cost of Rs 1.20 crore under SDRF against which Rs 49.74 lakh have been incurred upto last fiscal on these works.The Minister said that on Rambiara Nallah, six spots have been restored from Littar to Batpora Naina at an estimated cost of Rs 21.69 lakh under SDRF against which Rs 12.24 lakh have been incurred during last fiscal. He said that under permanent restoration, two spots have been restored at an estimated cost of Rs 14.73 lakh against which Rs 12.76 lakh have been incurred upto end of last fiscal.He said that on Lar Nallah, six damaged spots have been restored from Galbudgh to Wandakpora at an estimated cost of Rs 39.27 lakh under SDRF against which Rs 12.70 lakh have been incurred during last fiscal. He said that under permanent restoration five damaged spots have been restored at an estimated cost of Rs 46.43 lakh in these areas.Mr Abdul Majeed Paddar in his supplementary question demanded completion of Banimullah and Yari Canal for providing adequate irrigation facilities to the farmers of these areas.
