Dr Shehnaz Ganai MLC, today criticized the interim budget for 2016-17 and alleged that the government had failed to address the demands of various sections of society.While discussing the budget in the Legislative Council she said that the Budget 2016 as “an attempt to confuse common people in the garb of gimmick” and lack of orientation. Dr Ganai mentioned that the Budget lacks the road map for rehabilitating the People living near Boder and actual Line of Control, and there is no mention of providing five Marlas of land to such families despite the fact that the resolution in this behalf has already been passed by the Legislative Council . There is no mention of the recent announcement of 5kg food grains under Mufti Mohd Syed Food entitlement Scheme to NFSA beneficiaries, in the Budget Dr Ganai said that “This Budget is an attempt to confuse people in the garb of gimmick, which has no orientation. It is hollow and anti-poor. The Budget Presented by PDP-BJP coalition is a bitter-sweet pill for the common man, and it has impacted common man's spending & savings plans The debt burden of the State had gone up drastically and the budget had not responded to the demands 61000 casual and daily rated employees of the state who had been protesting across the State, also it has no provision for 7th pay Commission.

While welcoming the introduction of Busses for women, she demanded that the ambit of the scheme be expanded to the rural Districts of Pirpanchal, Chinab Region, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Ladakh.She Demanded that “All women police station” need to be opened at all District Head quarters, and also appreciated the proposal  wherein 10% of land in industrial estates will be reserved for women entrepreneurs. Dr Ganai said the budget has highlighted that the State's economy has slipped to a very bad state while the debt burden has gone up manifold. While appreciating the free education to the Girl child upto the Level of 12th Class, she demanded that the scheme be expanded upto college and university level, and asked the Government to keep a provision for reservation for women in the Government services.She demanded that VAT on Readymade, electronics and milk products be rolled back as it is going to badly impact the pocket of the Common man, while demanding that Toll on transport and fuel surcharge on airlines fuel be withdrawn, as it is going to impact the local industry, and the inflation is going to rise, which again the Common man has to face the brunt. She suggested to devise a mechanism so as to encourage institutional spending for the overall growth and development of the State.
