Private cars, 2 wheelers account 81% of total vehicle population in J&K: Sunil Kumar Sharma

Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma today informed in the House that private cars and 2- wheelers account for 81% of total vehicle population in Jammu and Kashmir.The Minister was replying to a question of Ramesh Arora. The Minister informed that according to Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Jammu does not figure in top 22 cities of India in terms of number of registered vehicles. He said that in view of changing patterns in life style and increase in spending capacity of individuals no curb can be placed on purchase of vehicles for private use. However, restrictions have been put in place by the Motor Vehicles department for issuance of permits for passenger commercial vehicles, he added.The Minister further informed that to check pollution in the state, 136 pollution checking centers are registered by the Motor vehicles department of which 81 are working.Legislator Dr Shehnaz Ganai raised supplementary to the main question.
2 subjects being taught in Govt polytechnic ShopianMinister of State for Youth Services & Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma today, replying to a question of Showkat Hussain Ganie, informed the House that two subjects are being taught in Government Polytechnic College, Shopian.The Minister informed that subjects which are being taught in the Government Polytechnic College, Shopian are Electronics & Communication Engineering and Instrumentation & control, saying that the government is committed to upgrade the infrastructure in all polytechnic institutions of the state.Sajjad Kichloo and Vibodh Gupta raised supplementary to the main question.
