Irrigation facilities in Ganderbal being augmented: Sham Lal Chowdhery

Saying that the Government is well aware of the problems being faced by the farming community during the Kharief season in the Constituency, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Choudhary today said that the government has projected 8 irrigation schemes under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) and 3 under NABARD for this year to augment and upgrade the irrigation facilities in the Constituency. He said that to provide safe drinking to the people, under PHE sector, 12 new schemes have also been submitted under NABARD. The Minister said this today while interacting with the people during the tour of Ganderbal Constituency to take stock of the peoples’ problems relating to PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control sectors. MLA, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, Chief Engineers PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Kashmir Division also accompanied the Minister during the tour.During the tour, the Minister visited various areas of the constituency and inspected Lift Irrigation Schemes and Water Supply Schemes.Inspecting the Lift Irrigation Schemes at Patti Shallabugh Dar Mohalla, Narain bagh-Dub, Pati Devpora, Zazna and Rapore Balla, the Minister directed the concerned for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPRs) for the up-gradation of these schemes so that farmers do not face any inconvenience during harvesting seasons.
Mr. Sham Choudhary said that DPRs for augmentation of dewatering stations Pati Devpora and Gogji Gund have been prepared under PMKSY programme, adding that the works would be taken up on priority as and when funds are made available by the Centre.The Minister said that the DPR for up-gradation of Zazna Lift Irrigation Scheme has been prepared for an amount of Rs. 85.90 lakhs under PMKSY programme, while as, the DPRs for Lift Irrigation Scheme Narian Bagh and Raipora are under process.Responding to the demands of locals at Pati Shallbugh Dar Mohallah for construction of protection bunds on the embankments of Sindh nallah at various places, the Minister said that DPRs for the purpose have been formulated and cleared by State Technical Advisory Committee and to be submitted to the concerned quarter for funding. The Minister also issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned to attend the people for early redressal of their problems relating to provision of Safe drinking water and irrigation facilities. He also directed the concerned for taking up appropriate action to dismantle the local Over Head Tank (OHT) at Kujar Gadder.
