Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today decided to hold a state level function in observance of 300th Martyrdom day of legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Chappar Chiri in SAS Nagar (Mohali) on June 26. Presiding over a high level meeting to commemorate the 300th Martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur here at his residence this morning, the Chief Minister constituted a high level committee under the chairmanship of Tourism & Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal with Revenue & Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Member Parliament Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Cabinet Ministers Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema and Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal, Chairman Punjab State Technical Education Board Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, General Secretary Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, former state BJP Chief Mr. Kamal Sharma, Vice Chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala Dr. Jaspal Singh besides a representative from Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee to oversee all arrangements regarding the commemoration of this mega event in the state, where several functions were being organized on the occasion.It was also decided in the meeting to organize laser shows at the historic Aam Khas Bagh at Sirhind to be organized by country’s renowned event management company to depict the life and philosophy of iconic Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in order to apprise people especially the younger generations about his stellar contribution in the abolition of Jagirdari system from the control of Mughals, who made the tillers and cultivators, the actual owners of the land and issued coins and seals in the name of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. It may be recalled that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was the first one to establish ‘Khalsa Raj’ in 1710. 

Taking part in the deliberation, the Chief Minister informed that he would personally extend invitation to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to preside over a function with regard to this tercentenary commemoration of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s martyrdom at New Delhi, where he was martyred in 1716. Mr. Badal authorised the high level committee to take all decisions related to the commemoration of this historic event. He also said that the state government has already earmarked a sum of Rs 25 crore for commemoration of this memorable event in a befitting manner. Mr. Badal also authorised Vice Chancellor Punjabi University and President SGPC to approve the concept paper for script of laser show on the life and ideology of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Cabinet Ministers Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema and Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal, Member Parliament Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Rajya Sabha Members Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder, former MP Mr. Tarlochan Singh, Chairman Punjab State Technical Education Board Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, President SGPC Jathedar Avtar Singh, President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Mr. Manjit Singh GK, General Secretary DSGMC Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, former state BJP Chief Mr. Kamal Sharma and Vice Chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala Dr. Jaspal Singh, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs Mrs. Anjali Bhawra, Director Cultural Affairs Mr. NPS Randhawa and Director Public Relations Mrs. Senu Duggal.
