Tongri project taken up at Rs 1537 lakhs: Abdul Haq

Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq while replying, on behalf of Minister In-charge Agriculture, to a question of Mr. Showket Hussain Ganie in the Legislative Council today informed that the CAD&WM project of Tongri was taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 1537.15 lakh with Culturable Command Area (CCA) of 4064 hectares for utilization of created irrigation potential below the outlet of main canal.The Minister informed that the expenditure incurred up to March 2016 is Rs 979.97 lakh with a CCA coverage of 3421 hectares, adding that no further work could be taken up for execution as  the project stands closed as per MoU during the financial year 2015-16.Abdul Haq, however, informed that the balance CCA has been proposed in the District Irrigation Plan (DIP) of Shopian and Kulgam district under ‘’ Pardhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Youjana” (PMKSY) which has been launched by the  Union Ministry of Agriculture and farmers welfare by amalgamation of ongoing schemes of  Union Ministries of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation: Agriculture and Farmers Welfare & Rural Development.The Minister further informed that the project could be taken only for execution after the approval of the DIPs by the Central Government. The DIP of Shopian and Kulgam district has been submitted to the Ministry for sanction along with DIPs of 20 districts, he added.
