Road connectivity vital for development: Mir Zahoor Ahmad

Directs formulation of DPRs for new roads

Minister of State for Forests, Ecology & Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperatives and Fisheries Mir Zahoor Ahmad today kick-started macadamization work at Padgampora in Pulwama and said that road connectivity is crucial for socio-economic development of the State.He said that Mehbooba Mufti led coalition Government has prioritized R&B sector and directions have been given to the department to conduct survey of all uncovered areas and formulate Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) accordingly. He said that the Government is committed to provide road connectivity to all areas of the state and lay foundations for overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.The Minister also interacted with locals, after kick starting the macadamization work on 6 km long Goripora- Padhgampora road being upgraded at the cost of Rs 11 crore in Pulwama.

On the occasion, the Minister was apprised by the concerned that in Pampore Constituency about 97km of road length was damaged in 2014-floods. He was informed that out of the 97 Km, this year 45 Km will be macadamised.The Minister directed the officials of R&B to speed up the pace of works and ensure their time bound completion.Referring to the initiatives taken by the government, he said that several initiatives are underway to improve the basic infrastructure of all core sectors like health, education and power adding that various flagship programmes are being launched in the State to improve the living standard of the people especially of the weaker sections of the society.
