Have identified students involved in stone-pelting, vandalism: police

Police in Ganderbal have said that they have identified the students allegedly involved in stone-pelting and vandalism early this week after clashes erupted between two sides."All the photographs and video footages have been collected and students who were in forefront of the protests injuring many police officials and causing damage to their college and other public property have been identified and further verification will  be done through college authorities," a police official told news agency GNS.The official said senior officers of police held a closed door meeting with college administration. "The administration requested that students need to be given a chance to rectify their behaviour and any police action against the students will have implications on their careers."

The official said the parents of the students who indulged in violence have also been informed by the administration and have been requested to counsel their children.As of now administration is extending all support to the college authorities who have in turn requested to give a chance to students, he said, adding that the administration has also assured that any further action on students will be subject to their future behaviour.Pertinently, violent clashes broke out between students and police after some students of Degree College Ganderbal were allegedly thrashed by cops. The clashes left dozens of students and cops injured while they continued for second day as well. The authorities on the third day closed down the College amid apprehensions of violence. (GNS)
