Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under the house imprisonment on 20 May Friday and he was forcibly today prevented from participating in the Friday prayers like important religious obligation. While strongly condemning the government actions, Hurriyat (G) said that the continuous house detention of Geelani Sahab has no legal or constitutional justifications and the police has held him captive merely on the gun point. In a statement issued to KNS, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that after staying in New Delhi for about two months in connection with his health checkups, Geelani returned Srinagar on 6 April and since then he is under the police detention at his residence. In the period of this one and a half month, he has not been allowed to come out of his house even for a single day and he had missed 7 Friday prayers during this period. although a huge contingent of police always remain deployed around the residence of Geelani 24*7 but on Friday the additional police force is called-in to prevent the 86 years old man from coming out of his house to offer the Friday congregational prayers.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that as usual the government had not given any reason or grounds for the illegal house detention of Syed Ali Geelani till date and the police again have no court orders or any government document to justify the imprisonment of the Hurriyat (G) Chairman.Spokesman said that the house arrest process of Geelani started in August 2010 and this process is completing its 6 years now. After Omer Abdullah and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, now the Mehbooba Mufti too enforced complete ban over the movements of the pro-freedom leader and he is not being allowed to perform his political, social and religious activities.Hurriyat (G) spokesman also condemned in strong words the illegal house detention of Hurriyat Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah and said that the government had completely failed in facing the pro-freedom leadership on the political turf and they are using every state machinery to suppress their peaceful voices. Hurriyat (G) appealed the human rights organizations to take notice of this state terrorism and use their influence for releasing the pro-freedom leadership of Kashmir. (KNS)
