Expressing great satisfaction and happiness over superb performance of meritorious schools with 100% results of the first batch passing out 10+2 from state board examination, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that the state government would bear the entire expenditure of higher education of students passing out from meritorious schools for which the state had already earmarked a budgetary allocation of Rs. 15 crore during the fiscal year.Briefing the Chief Minister, the Project Director of the Society running these schools, General K.A.S. Bhullar apprised him that out of 2053 students who appeared in the 10+2 board exam, as many as 1270 students scored above 80% marks with capturing 23 positions in the merit list. Gen. Bhullar told Mr. Badal that with the change of medium of instruction from Punjabi to English some students may have had a drop in performance but at the same time we were committed to give these students special coaching in English so as to equip them to excel better during the current academic session. The Chief Minister asked Gen. Bhullar to make far more concerted efforts with sharpened focus to impart qualitative education to the students especially from humble and rural background of state so that majority of them should crack these All India level exams for entry into professional colleges. The Society in the very first year has created a record by having 161 students from humble, rural and government school background qualifying for the prestigious JEE Advanced Exam, while nearly 550 students would get admissions in the country’s most reputed engineering colleges. This has never happened in the state before. Congenial academic atmosphere coupled with extracurricular activities and sports in these meritorious schools have been instrumental in shaping the overall personality of these students to enable them to compete with their peers coming from urban and elite background.
