Describing youth as key agents for development and peace Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam while addressing a youth convention in Town Hall Kulgam in South Kashmir today said that youth should remain in the forefront in the struggle against the anti-people policies of the government, corruption and unemployment.Referring to the specter of unemployment which is haunting the youth of the state the CPI (M) leader observed that high levels of unemployment are alarming and a cause of serious concern. The callous and insensitive approach of the government towards the issue has put our youth in a state of despair, despite learning newer skills and equipping themselves to be eligible for gainful employment.Stating that unemployment is predominant among educated youth who have completed secondary and higher secondary education, Tarigami said that a majority of our people are in the prime of their age, where, if properly empowered, all of them can add to the productive hands and contribute to the all round development of the nation. Unfortunately, this demographic advantage is being wasted due to the disastrous policies pursued by the government, he added.

“It is not just the future of the youth that is at stake today, but the future of the state as well. The youth whose aspirations and dreams are not realized are increasingly getting disillusioned and their anger, if not properly channelised will prove detrimental to the future of the State, he cautioned.”Observing that the unemployment among educated youth is mostly due to faulty education policies the CPI (M) leader said that the government is failing in its duty to strengthen the education system through its neglect and budget squeeze. While demanding that the government must promulgate such policies that will better the lives of the youth and also actively involve them in the entire process of policy formulation Tarigami called upon political parties of the state to join their heads together to chalk out a comprehensive policy to address the menacing problem of unemployment and other burning issues confronting the youth of the state .Addressing the convention youth leaders including Mohammad Amin Dar, Advocate Arshid Husssain Baba, Abdul Rashid Dar urged the union government and the present dispensation in the state to facilitate redressal of grievances of the youth without any further delay. “This is the time for state to invest in youth and reactivate their energies for economic growth and social development, they stressed. The convention was presided over by Mohammad Aqaash Shah senior youth leader.
