Sumbal residents protest against delay in rehabilitation

The residents of Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district who were affected in 2014 deluge Saturday staged protest here at Srinagar’s press enclave against the government for allegedly failing to rehabilitate them.The protesters while chanting anti-government slogans accused the current regime of being “non-seriousness” towards the rehabilitation of flood affected people of 2014 deluge.Scores of protesting flood victims were demanding rehabilitation as promised b the government.

Ali Muhammad, a protesting flood victim alleged that during the Governor’s rule in the state, the rehabilitation process was going smoothly but after the new PDP-BJP coalition government took over in the state, the things went worse.He said that after sufferings tremendous loss in 2014 deluge, the authorities provided cheques worth Rs 3800, which was not enough to repair their houses, adding that, “Despite that we have not been given even a single penny so far thereby resulted in the immense hardships to the flood affected people of the area,” he said.Threatened to intensify protests in case the authorities fail to disburse amounts within week to their bank accounts, the protesting residents said if the government will not fulfil the promises they did with the flood affected people then will come on roads and will launch an agitation against the ‘failure’ of the government.Meanwhile, the protesters later dispersed peacefully.
