Former SKIMS professor is new IUST VC , Replaces Prof A R Trag

Former SKIMS professor, Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi was Thursday appointed as new Vice-chancellor of Islamic University of Science and Technology.Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Chancellor of the varsity, appointed Dr Siddiqi as VC IUST for a period of three years after a panel comprising Prof Amitabh Mattoo (Advisor to CM), Dr V S Chauhan (Former Director ICGEB, Member UGC), Prof Jalees Ahmad Khan Tareen (Former VC University of Kashmir/ Pondicherry University/ B S Abdur Rehman University) and Dr G N Qazi (VC Jamia Hamdard) recommended his name for the post.Born on June 15, 1955 Dr Siddiqi did his PhD from Jammu University in 1979 and became youngest PhD awardee at that time. In 1983 he did his Post Doctorate from School of Medicine, Chiba University, Tokyo Japan.Siddiqi was the Professor of SKMS and was chairman of Immunology and Molecular Medicine. 

He took voluntary retirement from the service in SKIMS in 2012.He has been a scholar of Monboshu in Japan and Humboldt Scholar in Germany and visiting professor to several universities in Japan and Germany.Professor Siddiqi has more than 20 international publications to his credit and was vice chancellor designate of Trans-world Muslim University here.“I will share my experience in the university so that it becomes one of the excellent academic and research institutions in the state,” Prof Siddiqi told KNS.Congratulating Prof Siddiqi as the new VC of IUST, the executive council member of the varsity Syed Showkat Gayoor said he welcomes the new VC and hoped that Prof Siddiqi with his vast experience in the field of education will take forward it to reach pinnacle of excellene.The acclaimed professor runs an NGO, TAUMM charitable Trust, which helps poor children in healthcare and educationA resident of Sanatnagar locality in Srinagar, Prof Siddiqui replaces Prof Abdul Rashid Trag, who served the university for five years. A warm send off was given by the university staff and faculty to Prof Trag. (KNS)
