Athar from Ananatnag is second IAS topper

An engineering graduate from South Kashmir’s Islamabad district has secured second place in the prestigious 2015 IAS examination, the results of which were declared today.Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan of Devipora village in Mattan joined IIT Roorkee and completed his Engineering from IIT Himachal Pradesh in July 2014.Athar has cracked all professional entrance examinations in 2009-10 and became the youngest boy, 22, from valley to qualify the exam.

He had qualified CET in Kashmir and even joined Government Medical College Jammu but pursued his ‘IIT dream’.He is among the eight from Jammu and Kashmir selected in the prestigious Indian Administrative Service. Besides Athar, Sheema Nabi Qasba (209), Baseer-Ul-Haq, Ruveda Salam, Afaq Giri, Deeba Farhat, Choudhary Yaseen and Ankit Koul.Athar did his schooling from Iqbal Memorial Institute, Islamabad upto Matric and twelfth from Tydale Biscoe, Srinagar in 2009.Sheema Nabi Qasba daughter of Dr G N Qasba ex-SMC Commissioner has qualified the IAS.Sheema completed her B.A., LL.B. (Honours) from National Law University, Jodhpur. She worked with a leading law firm in New Delhi before qualifying IAS.

A total of 1,078 candidates cleared the UPSC exam — 499 from the general category, 314 from the other backward classes, 176 from the scheduled castes and 89 from the scheduled tribes.Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh and Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar have felicitated the J&K youth who have qualified the Civil Services Examination (IAS) this year.Dr Singh and Akhtar have extended special greetings to Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan of Devipora, Mattan, Anantnag for bagging second position in the prestigious examination.The Deputy Chief Minister and the Education Minister said that it was heartening to note that a sizeable number of students from Jammu and Kashmir have qualified the IAS examination this year also.They said Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan has brought laurels to the State after Shah Faesal who became the first boy from J&K to top the prestigious IAS examination in 2009.The Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dr. Amitabh Matoo has felicitated the J&K youth who have qualified the Civil Services Examination (IAS) this year.Dr Matto has also extended special greetings to Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan of Devipora, Mattan, Anantnag for bagging second position in the prestigious examination.He said that it is a matter of great pride that a size able number of students from Jammu and Kashmir have qualified the IAS examination this year also and hoped that the trend would continue by more youth qualifying this prestigious examination in coming years.
