District conference marks World Red Cross Day

District Administration, Udhampur, organised a number of events to celebrate World Red Cross Day under the theme ‘Everywhere for Everyone’. A rally of Junior and Senior Red Cross volunteers was organised followed by conference on achievements of District Red Cross Society.Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who is also the Chairman of District Red Cross Society, flagged of a rally of volunteers as well as Life Members from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School which proceeded through the town and calumniated at the Mini Secretariat. Students from various schools presented their views and experiences on the role and contribution of Red Cross.The DC addressed the Red Cross conference and informed the achievements of District Red Cross Society through active public participation and proactive local contributions for creating a record as donations in the year 2015-16 increased by 400% over the previous year. 

It was informed that an assistance of more than Rs 35 Lakh was provided by DRSC to NOKs of dead and the victims of road accidents and more than 300 patients were also provided assistance for treatment and medicines. More than 150 orphan and BPL students were also supported by the DRSC.He further elaborated that a month long Red Cross Mela remained a great success with public participation for creating mass awareness and which played key role in getting more life members. The role played by Red Cross Volunteers and Civil Defence volunteers across the year during various events was also recalled and appreciated. Students were called upon to actively work for further strengthening Red Cross and helping thousands of needy people in the district.Among others, CEO Bishen Singh, CMO Dr. Chander Parkash, Secretary Red Cross Dr. V P Sharma, Superintendent District Hospital Dr. Narinder Bhutyal, Tehsildar Sapna Kotwal, CEO Municpal Council K K Chhalotra, staff of various schools, college, life members as well as prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
