IFJHRJK releases report on pellet gun victims in Kashmir

From 2008- march 2016, 569 people fell prey to pellet firing

International forum for justice and human rights Jammu Kashmir has released a comprehensive report on pellet gun victims of Kashmir.In the report it has been revealed that from 2008 to march 2016 569 innocent people fell prey to pellet firing of Indian occupational forces and police.According to report in these 569 people 73 lost their eyesight permanently ,174 lost their arms,100 lost legs and 222 people are such whose various parts of the body got damaged.IFJHRJK in its report made this sensational revelation that during last six years 569 people became disable by one way or the other due pellet firing.Giving break up in its comprehensive report IFJHRJK said that in Srinagar district alone 1059 people fall prey to pellet injuries .Out of these 1059 pellet victims, 23 lost their eyesight permanently while as 37 lost their arms, 27 their limbs and 31 are such whose various parts of the body were disabled.In Gandarbal district out of total 27 pellet victims, 3 lost eyesight, 7 their arms, 5 their limbs and 12other parts of the body. Report further reveals that in Bandipora district a total of 27 pellet victims were registered during the said period and out of these 25 victims, 5 lost eyesight permanently, 11 lost their arms, 4 lost limbs and 9 people are those who became disable due to malfunctioning of the various parts of body.As for as Baramulla district is concerned, according to report released by IFJHRJK a total of 84 pellet victims were registered in this district from 2008 to march 2016. As per report out of these 84 victims, 13 lost eyesight, 21 are such whose arms became permanently disable, 16 lost their legs and 54 lost other parts of body.In Kupwara district a total of 18 pellet victims were found during the period under discussion. 

Out of these 18 victims, one lost eyesight permanently, 3 are without their arms, 2 lost their limbs and 12 various parts of the body.In pulwama district a total of 67 people were recorded with pellet injuries. Out of these 67 pellet victims, 7 lost eyesight, 22 their arms, 14 their legs and 24 lost other parts of the body.In Shopian district 49 pellet victims were recorded. Out of these 49 victims, 4 lost the eyesight, 18 their arms, 7 their limbs and 20 other parts of the body.Likewise in Kulgam district 48 pellet victims were recorded by IFJHRJK investigating team and out of these 48 victims, 6 lost their eyesight, 19 arms, 3 legs and 20 other parts of the body.According to report, in Islamabad district a total of 95 pellet victims were recorded and out of these 95 victims, 9 lost their eyesight completely, 31 are such whose arms became permanently disabled, 22 lost their limbs and 33 other parts of the body.According to report of IFJHRJK in some women are also among these pellet victims. In total out of 569 victims, 73 lost their eyesight permanently, 174 are such whose arms are permanently disabled, 100 are such whose legs became defunct and 222 others are such whose other parts of the body were badly damaged due to pellet firing.Chairman IFJHRJK Mohammad Ahsan Untoo while lambasting government trigger happy forces for such inhumane actions said that he had got stay order on the use of pellet firing from state human rights commission in 2013 but despite that ban, rampant use of pellet continues and occupational forces have been given free hand to kill and disable Kashmiris by use of excessive force.Untoo said that he in constant touch with battery of lawyers and very soon he will knock the door of Honorable high court in this regard.
