Health Department Celebrates World Malaria Day

In order to control Malaria, every Friday would be observed as a dry day in the State and the coolers and water containers would be cleaned, ordered Mrs. Vinni Mahajan, Principal Secretary Health on the occasion of World Malaria Day.She informed that Gambusia fish farms are being set up statewide wherein Gambusia fish are being reared. This fish eats up larva of dengue and malaria mosquitoes; thereby preventing their multiplication. This fish is being put into the village ponds as per necessity so as to check malaria.Principal Secretary Health informed that Local Bodies, Water Supply & Sanitation, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries as well as Rural Development and Panchayats Department are working in tandem with health department to curb diseases like Malaria and Dengue.

She said that during the transmission season, Local Government and Rural Development Department will check the growth of these mosquitoes in the offices and households and will challan the head of the concerned place if it is found that malaria mosquitoes are found breeding over there.She made an appeal to the people to ensure the cleanliness of coolers and water containers so that outbreak of malaria may be checked. She informed that a State level Function to mark the World Malaria Day was celebrated under the presence of Health Minister Punjab, Mr. Surjit Kumar Jiyani at Faridkot. She added that the State Health Department has procured the requisite larvicides and insecticides and various other activities are going on to check malaria.
