Youth attacks cop for asking documents: Police

Clashes erupted in Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Saturday after a civilian and traffic policeman had scuffle over some minor issues.According to an official, Nasrulla Mir, son of Abdul Razaq Mir of Dharwani Batmaloo was stopped by traffic cops at Batamaloo and asked to produce documents of his vehicle during which there was scuffle between cop and the youth.According to eye-witnesses, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Batamaloo area after the incident took place.Locals said that police disbursed tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated protesters in the area.The family of the youth told KNS that their beloved one, Nasrullah was beaten by the police officials. “We don’t know the exact reason why Nasrullah and an official scuffled. Mir is currently in observation in SKIMS,” his nephew, Bilal Ahmad told KNS.He said that he is not in a condition to speak while doctors advised him to take rest.Meanwhile, SSP traffic City, Maqsood-ul-Zaman told KNS that the cop was attacked by the youth and has suffered severe injuries. 

He said that he was immediately shifted to police hospital for treatment.“Cop suffered a fracture to his nose and got six stitches as well. Cop felt unconscious after he was beaten by the youth,” Zaman said, adding that the cop was shifted to SMHS hospital from police hospital for specialized treatment.Meanwhile, in a statement issued to KNS, police said that on April 23, during checking by Traffic Police, one person namely Nasrullah Mir son of Abdul Razaq resident of Darwani Batamaloo was stopped by Traffic Cops at Kaman Post, Batamaloo and was asked to show the documents of his vehicle.“During the checking, he physically assaulted Sub Inspector Farooq Ahmad who suffered grievous injuries. The injured S.I. was shifted to Hospital. Nasrullah Mir also got some minor injuries and was shifted to Hospital where his condition is stable,” police said.They said that a case under FIR No. 46/2016 has been registered into the matter in Police Station Batamaloo and investigation has been taken up.
