Jahangir Mir for preserving, promoting rich tribal culture

Stressing the need for preserving and highlighting the rich and vibrant tribal culture of the state, Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Jahangir Mir today said that the efforts are afoot to ensure that the cultural heritage of these ethnic groups is preserved and propagated for posterity Mir was speaking during his visit to Kala Kendra where a three-day National painting exhibition on Life and Culture of Tribal Communities of the state has been organized by the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation in collaboration with district Administration Udhampur.

Mr. Mir was accompanied by the convener of the exhibition and renowned Gujjar Scholar Dr. Javaid Rahi and veteran artist and writer N .D Jamwal.Speaking on the occasion, Jahangir Mir appreciated the efforts of the Foundation in highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the state and said that such exhibitions provide platform to the artists to exhibit their talent. He also stressed on setting up a tribal museum to display the rich culture.Javaid Rahi informed that total 25 paintings of various artists are put on display  in the exhibition with an objective to attract the artists fraternity of India towards the vivid  tribal and nomadic culture of  state.Artists whose painting are on display includes Kulwant Singh Gill, K K Gandhi, R P Singh,Akram Khan, Satpaul Deol, Rohit Verma, Rakesh Kumar, Sahil Ohri, Narinder K Bhagat, Anjli Bharti, Munir Chowdhary,  Mahva Gupta, Kanchan Verma, Sakhsi Khullar Gupta and others.
