Directs Social media News Agencies to get registration from concerned DCs

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Monday reviewed the law and order situation in  the valley during a  meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division through video conferencing .The Divisional Commissioner asked the Deputy Commissioners and District Superintendents of Police to have close liaison with the prominent citizens and civil society members of their respective districts so that administration can handle law and order situation in better way to avoid any untoward incident. He also impressed upon strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).The Divisional Commissioner also reviewed the measures to curb  rumor mongering and directed the operators of social media news agencies to obtain proper permission from the concerned Deputy Commissioners for posting news on social media news groups along with sources. He said action will be taken against the violators.

The Div Com also asked Information Department to involve media fraternity to help in monitoring of the news posted on the social media. Divisional Commissioner also sought cooperation of telecom operators to keep a check on rumor mongers. On the occasion  IGP Kashmir sought timely information and better cooperation from telecom operators which  he said is pivotal to curb rumors and rumor mongers.During the video conferencing, the Divisional Commissioner impressed upon all the DCs and SPs to ensure efficient and better public services to the people in their respective jurisdictions and redress public grievances in a time bound manner.The meeting was attended by IGP Kashmir Zone SJM Geelani, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Abdul Rashid War, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar, Joint Director Information, Kashmir Shafqat Iqbal, besides representatives of Telecom Operators of the valley.
