Dal Dwellers Wednesday alleged that Government has been doing nothing to mitigate their sufferings.“For years we have been awaiting proper land allotment for rehabilitation and compensation for the houses destroyed in 2014 floods, but year on year, we face new hurdles. We are still running from pillar to post to get our demands met,” the protesters said. They said that during the survey 166 houses were identified and government had promised to award compensation to the owners of those destroyed houses. “Even after identification nothing was done. Neither we are compensated nor are we allowed to repair our houses. This is injustice and we are here to protest seeking justice. The Deputy Chief Minister had assured us several times that our demands will be met but nothing has happened on ground,” the Dal Dwellers told CNS.They alleged that LAWDA has been misleading government over compensation and rehabilitation issue. “Dozens of meeting were convened by LAWDA to settle our issue and those meeting ended up without any positive outcome,” they said and appealed Deputy Chief Minister to mitigate the sufferings of Dal Dwellers who have been facing hardships on account of callous attitude of the government.

They appealed Housing and Urban Development Minister that they should be rehabilitated at Chandpora Harwan. “Rakh Aarth colony is not fit for living as it lacks basic amenities. We request the government to allot Chandpora land for our rehabilitation,” they said. They further demanded that the rates for compensation for land mass land have been determined few years ago since then inflation and escalation has taken place considerably and thus present market rates should be considered for the land acquired by the government.   When contacted Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who is also the Housing and Urban Development Minister said that their government believes in action and they will address all the problems of Dal Dwellers.
