Div Com reviews measures for promotion of Urdu

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today asked the officials and private organizations to work for the promotion of Urdu language.While chairing a meet to review the progress on the promotion of Urdu language in Kashmir division, Dr Samoon said that Urdu is the single language that connects the diverse population of the State. He said that number of languages are being spoken in Kashmir and Urdu is a common link among all of them.The meeting was attended by Director School Education Kashmir, officials of Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages representatives from JK Bank, Private schools association besides other concerned officials from various districts through video conferencing.

On the occasion, Director Education, Kashmir said that the Department is working towards appointing subject based teachers that will increase the quality of Urdu teaching in schools. He also said that the department will install all boards in dual languages. Similarly officials from various districts said that signboards are being gradually replaced with Urdu and the official notepads will also contain the heading in Urdu in addition of English.The participants stressed the need to make Urdu language attractive in job market. The representatives of JK Bank assured the Div Com that in future all stationery and signboards would be bilingual.The representative of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) said that their webpage is already in Urdu and B.Ed. course is being taught in Urdu at the University.During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner ordered all Deputy Commissioners to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) including the steps taken for the promotion of Urdu languages in their respective districts.
