NIT issue resolved: IGP

‘Class work will start from Monday’

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Javaid Mujtaba Gilani on Saturday said that the tussle between locals and non-locals in National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar over the cricket match has been resolved.On the sidelines of the function, ‘Choona Hai Aasman’ a talent hunt organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police; IGP said that the issue between the two groups has been resolved. “The class work will resume from Monday,” he said.Referring to the shutdown order of the campus till further orders after clashes between local and non-local students over the defeat of Indian cricket team against the West Indies in Thursday’s semi final clash in the ongoing World T20 Cup, Gilani said that the order has also been revoked.He said that overall situation in the campus is normal.Meanwhile, the Zonal level competition of the talent hunt programme “Choona Hai Aasman” was held at Auditorium of Police Headquarters.Twenty one senior and junior competitors from the Kashmir Zone who were selected in the competitions held at range levels in South, Central and North Zones participated in the senior and junior levels of the event. 

The competitors were judged by the jury comprising of Sukhwant Kour Professor Music, noted singers Muneer Ahmad Mir and Aijaz Ahmad Rah. Noted educationist and music expert Hawa Bashir was the chief guest on the occasion. The proceedings were conducted by the noted broadcasters Azhar Hajni and Dr. Javaid Ahmad.Those who have been selected are Kainaat Manazir, Iqbal Gulzar, Masrat Aziz, Firdous Ahmad, Ruqiya Maqbool, Zaid Rashid, Tasleema Majeed, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Danishta Nabi, Tanveer Ahmad Najar and Malik Wahid.IGP Kashmir S.J.M Gillani and Chief Guest Hawa Bashir distributed the trophies and Cash rewards among the selected singers and certificates among the participants including the winners.A cash reward of rupees 20,000 was given to the 1st position holders, rupees 15,000 were given to the 2nd position holders and 10,000 rupees was given to the 3rd position holders.A special consolation prize was given to Bashir Ahmad Golpori of Kulgam and his party.

Speaking on this occasion, Hawa Bashir complimented department of police for organizing the event. She said that this is a very nice platform provided by the J&K Police to the young singers to show their singing abilities which were judged by expert and eminent team of jury.She said that the police department needs to be complimented for organizing such event as their job is being tough and a 24 hours needing total devotion to the call of the duty and even out of this tight schedule they have managed to find time and resources to assist the buddy singers.Among others top police officers including DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat, DIG SKR Nitesh Kumar and Superintendents of Police of different districts and their families were present.Those who were selected today will participate in State level competition which will be held shortly.Vote of thanks was presented by Showkat Sarwar Shah SO to IGP Kashmir. In his address he thanked all the district police officers, range DIGs, jury members, singers, participant, their families and also the press and media fraternity for making the Choona Hai Aasman “Season-5” a successful event.
