Dog terror in South Kahsmir Scores bitten in two weeks

Dogs have let loose a reign of terror in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district where scores of people mostly schools going children have become prey from past two weeks.The locals from Kadipora, Lazbal, Bakshi Abad and Mattan Chowk warned that they will kill the dogs themselves if Municipal Committee fails to curb the canine population. “From past two weeks at least 16 people had been bitten by these dogs who roam freely. Children are scared to venture out from their houses,” Javaid Ahmed, a local from Kadipora told CNS.

They said these dogs are posing a grave threat to the life of people adding the movement of people, especially children, elders and women has become difficult during morning and evening hours.There has been drastic increase in the canine population in the district, which has become a matter of huge concern for the people, especially the parents of children, rued locals.When contacted an official from Municipal Committee Anantnag said that owing to pressure from so-called Animal Rights defenders, they are unable to initiate action against the stray dogs.
