Holding successive regimes responsible for the appalling condition of the daily wagers, causal and need based workers, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today called for concrete measures to regularize these workers in a time bound manner.

Addressing the PHE daily wagers, ITI trained and CP Workers who are presently on strike in support of their long pending demands, Tarigami took a strong exception to the government’s lackadaisical approach towards their plight. He said that the successive governments’ have always been making deceptive commitments to buy time and avoid the crisis.“It is appalling that the successive governments in J&K have not fulfilled their commitments made with the daily wagers, causal labourers, CP and ITI trained people working in different departments for the last over a decade. The administrative apathy towards their genuine issues is against justice and fair play.” Tarigami observed.

The CPI (M) leader called for immediate and time bound regularization of all daily wagers, casual labourers, ITI trained, CP, land case and contractual employees. It urged upon the government to fulfil its commitment without any further delay.Tarigami said that it is apathetic on part of the government that instead of holding parleys with the workers on strike, the government adopts coercive methods to avoid the crisis.“The way protesting workers are dealt with in Kashmir is appalling as instead of holding parleys and addressing their genuine long pending issues particularly related to their regularization and release of wages, the successive governments have been using batons, water cannons and tear smoke shells to quell these protests. He said that there is genuine demand of casual, need based, daily rated, CP workers of various departments including PHE, PDD, Tourism, JVC, SKIMS, JKPCC, agriculture, Irrigation and flood control, forest, municipal corporations, rural development, estates department fisheries, SKUAST, floriculture, various development authorities and employees working under SSA and RMSA, who have given their blood and sweat to run these departments on the ground. The CPI (M) leader stressed on the need for a regularization policy to be formulated by the government under which all these workers are absorbed in different departments in a time bound manner.
