District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has stressed the need for educating and empowering the girls for their socio-economic transformation.He was addressing a large gathering of  ASHA workers, Anganwari Workers and female para-medics here today at a mega-awareness programme held under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP.Dr Choudhary said that aim of the BBBP programme is to celebrate the birth of girl child and to enable and facilitate her education. He said that education provides the means for girls to become informed citizens and help them get their voice heard in the society. He said for this purpose District Administration is concentrating on ensuring quality education to the girls.The DDC informed that in view of the work done by the District administration, the Udhampur district has been incorporated for implementation of centrally sponsored scheme, BBBP by the Union Ministry. He said a comprehensive programme has already been devised for effective implementation of the scheme.

Lauding the role of female field functionaries of different departments present on the occasion, the DDC asked them to identify such deserving girls who are in need of any assistance and added that every possible help would be extended to the girls for their upliftment.On the occasion a number of female speakers drawn from different departments expressed their views on the topic.  A motivational film show on the theme BBBP was also screened by the department of Information and Public Relations on the occasion.Among others Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chander Prakash, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Dr. Narinder, Project Officer, DRDA Dr. Jagdish Mehra, District Officers of different departments and doctors attended the programme.
