Rainwater inundates parts of Valley,People lash out at authorities

The inhabitants of Zainakote HMT area Saturday staged protest against Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for failing to dewater their which got inundated due to the rains from past three days in Valley.Inhabitants while chanting slogans against SMC were demanding dewatering their area.The residential areas including Musatafabad Colony, Iqbal colony Umarabad in Zainakaote area are inundated while the SMC according to the residents failed to dewater the area thereby leaving them to lurch at large.The residents demand imitate redressal of their grievances and later Dispersed peacefully.Meanwhile, the several Srinagar city areas continue to remain inundated. However, as per residents no action was taken till late evening.

The various areas in Srinagar City including Sarai Bala, Samandar Bagh, Jahangir Chowk, Abu Bakar Colony, Naik Bagh, Iram Lane, Botshah Nagar and others are water logged thereby resulting in the immense hardships to the residents and commuters as well.However, the inhabitants of old city said that no action was taken by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to dewater their areas since past three days.Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, a local resident told KNS that authorities have left them on God’s mercy with taking no action over it.“Authorities should have taken necessary steps earlier but to no avail. We are being pushed to walls due to the poor drainage system in our area,” Khan said.Accusing higher ups four ignoring their plights, the inhabitants here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.The residents later appealed SMC commissioner Bashir Ahmad Khan to intervene personally into the issue and redress their genuine grievances soon.SMC official while talking to KNS said that the process to dewater the submerged areas is on. “We have already started work in this regard and the areas will be dewatered soon,” he said. 

Meanwhile, most of the residential areas including Sopore, Rafiabad, Qaziabad, Zangair are inundated due to the heavy rains.Residents while talking to KNS said that their lawns are filled with muddy water; they are being pushed to remain in the four walls of the houses.They said that muddy water will enter their houses if the rains won’t stop.As per KNS correspondent, several villages in Rafiabad including Hadipora, Lorihama, Achabal, Khoshipora, are inundated.Meanwhile landslides occurred at several places took places in upper reaches of Rafiabad particularly in Panzlaa- Rohama road.While in Sopore town, several residential areas including Gousia colony, Rehmatabad, Noorbagh, Sidiq colony, Sir Syed colony are inundated with the rainwater.As per KNS correspondent, in Qaziabad, the increase in water level in Langate River Pohru created panic among people residing near bank of the river.In Zangair,several residential areas including Goripora, Bomai, Nathipora, Dangerpora, Brath, said that water entered in their residential areas. “If more rainfall will occur our houses will be damaged and we will not be able to even move from our houses,” they said.As per KNS correspondent, at least 10 residential houses are inundated in Goripora Bomai, no one from civil administration bothered to visit here said locals.
