VC Kissan Advisory Board Flags of Farmers Group to “Krishi Unnati Mela-2016”

Vice-Chairman, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans, Daljeet Singh Chib, flagged off a group of 100 farmers and 6 officers from different districts of Jammu Division to participate in “Krishi Unnati Mela 2016” to be held at IARI, Campus Pusa, New Delhi from March 19 to 21.Secretary Kissan Board G. N. Mir and other officers of agriculture department were present on the occassion .The visit is being organized by Department of Agriculture, Jammu under the Sub-mission for Agriculture Extension (SMAE) component of National Mission on Agriculture Extension & Technology (NMAET). While interacting with the farmers Vice-Chairman said that this tour has a specific objective of acquainting them with advanced agricultural methods which help to increase production and profitability of different agricultural crops. He added that there is a great need to modernize agriculture for sustainability. He advised the farmers to get themselves acquainted with the latest agricultural machinery that shall be displayed at the Krishi Unnati Mela.

The three-day Krishi Unnati Mela is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narender Modi on March 19. It will demonstrate modern farm technologies and government's new initiatives. Seminars with focus on the newly launched programmes like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana (PMKSY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Soil Health Card Scheme (SHCS) and Organic Farming aimed at creating awareness among farmers would also be held.Director Agriculture Jammu Dr. S. S. Jamwal, Joint Director Agriculture Extension A. K. Malhotra, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Sudesh Koul, Agriculture Chemist G. D. Gupta, Agronomist Vegetables, Sunil Koul, Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu R. L. Bhagat, Deputy Director Central, C M Sharma, ADO, Jammu Matinder Singh  and other officers were also present at the occasion.
