A deputation of the members of Tahafuz, a society of Kashmiri artisans on Friday called on, the Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and requested for enforcement of Geographical Indication(GI) patenting to protect PASHMINA and other items of Kashmir art The deputation requested the Advisor to provide support to the artisans so that quality of Pashmina besides other artisan products including Sozni, Khatamband, Papier Machie and Wood Carving is preserved besides authenticity for genuine handmade Pashmina goods is ensured.The Advisor assured the deputation that their demand will be mitigated and directions will be given to the concerned authorities to enforce the Act and give wide publicity regarding the same. He also said that better marketing of such products is also among priorities of the government and Handicraft department is also taking all possible measures for promotion of Kashmir art so that people associated with this sector are benefitted and their socio-economic condition improves.
